Music should be fun!

Martin Palmer, clarinettist and entertainer, plays to an audience of 100 children and adults at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth.

Mr Palmer plays piano, flute and clarinet. He aims to introduce children to classical music, but the emphasis of his show is classical music should be fun to play and listen to.

His witty rendition of scales and the more mundane aspects of learning music became fun and laughter to the receptive young audience.

An Englishman - he now lives in Singapore and performs throughout the Commonwealth. Mr Palmer is in Taranaki for six days and will perform another show for people of all ages - The Royal Show, With Noel Coward in Attendance - at the Govett-Brewster gallery on Saturday night.

He describes the show as - humour and intriguing facts pickled up with music. Its theme is songs, poetry and music written by members of the British royal family over the last 200 years. There will also be a selection of the songs and music of Nowel Coward.
